Mooneerams Head of Marketing, Carl Waring, will walk from Swansea to Cardiff on Saturday 9th of September to raise funds for Mooneerams Charity of the Year, 2wish. Rhian Mannings founded the Llantrisant-based charity after she suddenly lost her baby son George in 2012. Tragically, just five days later, Rhian also lost her husband Paul.
When she left hospital after losing George, Rhian received nothing in the way of help, guidance, or counselling – nothing.
Rhian determined to set up a charity to provide the support for others that was so sadly lacking in her own case.
Over a decade on and 2wish is providing support for those affected by sudden death in young people.
Earlier this year, Carl, and Alistair Worth, Mooneerams MD, spent a morning with the 2wish team and were privileged to hear Rhian’s story in person. She movingly described the loneliness she felt after losing her loved ones.
Carl says:
“When Alistair and I went over to see the team at 2wish earlier in the year, and Rhian told us her story, we were moved to tears – literally. I decided there and then that I wanted to do something reasonably challenging, to try and raise much-needed funds for 2wish. Providing the array of services they do comes at a cost, and as more and more people turn to 2wish for help, those costs keep on rising.
I eventually settled on walking the Wales Coastal Path from Swansea to Cardiff Bay where I’ll head up through the City to the Mooneerams office near the Coryton interchange.
It’s about 77 miles worth of walking, and I hope to arrive at Mooneerams no later than the afternoon of Wednesday 13th.
I will be joined on my journey by the 2wish mascot, the baby elephant, Gorgeous George. Along the way, George and I will blog, take photos, and post about our experiences on social media.
